I think my favorite is Russian Front. There are some rules I'd change (air supply is way too powerful and naval units are too powerful in ground combat support) but it has a very nice feel to it and rewards very careful play. The naval system is qui…

If you are writing about GMT's Eastern Front Series, check out that Group. This is for all the other games on the topic--strategic, operational, and tactical!

I agree with most of this strategy. Japan must take advantage of its early superiority to make the Americans fight before they are ready. The best place to do this is Port Moresby, and secondarily Guadalcanal. If these fall, an auto victory is withi…

Something like the combat system in the 2nd edition AH Bismarck might work. It was simple but not simplistic, and did a good job of showing the effect of different speeds. With a few modifications it would be better than the current system and much…

Hi Jim! I think we met a few years ago.. Hope things are going well for you! For the record, the Mage group is still active in Sioux City and Sioux Falls, though not a lot of boardgaming anymore, alas. I'm mostly residing in NY now, BTW.

I just watched the first episode and was impressed by the effort. Clearly, this is Band of Brothers in the Pacific, which works for me. I've only spent 53 minutes with these guys so it will take a few more episodes before these characters begin to r…

No doubt. I believe he was shot in the countryside and then trucked back to Milan for exhibition. One might say the real villain in the outrages committed by the Germans in Italy after the fall of il Duce was General Wolff , the SS commander. I have…

Drove past Aberdeen many times in my trips back and forth from Richmond (I worked there for four years). Good shots of the armored vehicles. Civil War tours and the whole subject in books, maps and games is fascinating. Keep me posted as to your sch…

If you notice the pictures that I uploaded to this site; I had taken them during a Civil War tour in 1991. My last stop was Richmond before heading home. I don't have a game preference so I will look into Pursuit of Glory. I'm not far from Freehold.…

IIRC the US Army Ordnance Museum is moving/has moved to Ft Lee, VA. I do know that the Patton Museum is currently in the process of moving to Ft Benning, GA.

As far as I'm concerned, the strutting bastard got exactly what he deserved.

I should make a trip down there sometime. I've been to the Patton Museum at Fort Knox and the Bovington Tank Museum in England, but Aberdeen looks terrific.

These are impressive vehicles. Would have been terrifying in a noisy, smokey battlefield or rolling up to you lying low in a foxhole.

My father also had original photos of the murdered Italian patriots (34 of them) hung from trees leading into the Italian town of Bassano del Grappa. These were victims of Nazi reprisals resulting from actions of Italian partisans. Viewing those pho…
